Suiting Up

As I mentioned before, I've been borrowing a 600mm lens from a guy trying to sell it to me. Unfortunately, I can't afford it right now (with a wedding 4 months away and all). Today is supposed to be my last day with the lens, so I headed back over the Steamer Lane for some final surf shots. Things didn't work out the way I had planned though.
The waves were flat for the most part. At least they were flat where the light was best, so I moved closer to the cliff where there were some actual breaks. Problem with that was that I was WAY too close with a 600mm. I decided to pull out my cheap 70-300mm even though I have never been happy with the results when I take action shots.
Today was different. The lens seemed sharper than it usually does. The focusing was still slow, but it was good enough for the slow-moving waves. I even got the above shot of a surfer just about to enter the water.
All in all, a good day of shooting and I didn't even need the 600mm.
... although I still want it.
